Fauna:

Caterpillars, Mammals

Larval host for brown duskywing butterfly ( Erynnis horatius ), the gray hairstreak ( Strymon melinus ), and white-M hairstreak (Parrhasius m-album).

Squirrels, racoons, deer and many other animals eat the acorns.
