The Florida Native Plant Society Photography Contest showcases the visual stories of Florida’s native flora, landscapes, and the people who protect them. Whether you’re a professional photographer, a passionate amateur, or simply love snapping shots in nature, we invite you to share your perspective through the lens.
This contest celebrates the role of photography in inspiring conservation, documenting native biodiversity, and connecting people to Florida’s natural heritage.
MISSION
The FNPS Photography Contest aims to highlight the visual power of native plants in Florida’s landscapes and ecosystems. We celebrate photographers who capture the intricate beauty, ecological value, and conservation significance of native species and habitats.
VISION
We envision a Florida where every citizen recognizes, values, and protects native plants. By capturing moments of beauty, resilience, and connection, your photographs help build awareness and appreciation for the essential role of native plants in our environment.
AWARDS
Judging will be conducted by a team of FNPS members, who will evaluate submissions based on a standardized scoring rubric.
Prizes: Exclusive FNPS gifts will be awarded for first, second, and third place in each age tier and category.
Exhibition: First place winners will be featured on the FNPS website and in the quarterly publication, the Palmetto. All winners will be featured on social media platforms and at the 2027 FNPS Conference.
All applicants will receive an FNPS sticker.
CATEGORIES
- Native Plants in Their Habitat
- Showcase Florida's native plants thriving in their natural environments.
- Wildlife and Plant Interactions
- Capture moments of wildlife engaging with Florida’s native plants.
- Landscapes Featuring Native Plants
- Highlight landscapes where native plants are prominent.
- Artistic Interpretations
- Creative compositions emphasizing the beauty of Florida’s native plants.
- Advocacy in Action
- Spotlight community advocacy and engagement to protect Florida’s natural areas.
- Youth Category (17 and under) - Open to young photographers capturing any of the above themes.
FEES
- Adult - Members: $5 per image
- Adult - Non-Members: $10 per image
- Youth* - Members: $2 per image
- Youth* - Non-Members: $4 per image

Maximum Entries: Up to 5 images per participant
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
Subject Matter: Photographs must feature Florida native plants. Images should not include non-native species, humans, or man-made structures.
Editing: Only standard post-processing adjustments are permitted, such as exposure, contrast, cropping, and focus stacking (including microstacking). Excessive alterations or AI-generated images are not allowed.
Originality: Entries must be original works taken by the participant since January 1, 2020.
IMPORTANT DATES
- Contest opens: July 15, 2025
- Last day for submissions: September 15, 2025
- Winners official announcement: October 15, 2025
SUBMITTAL INSTRUCTIONS
Image Format: High-resolution JPEGs and HEIC
Photo Submission Method: Upload images via a preferred file-sharing service (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox) and include a link in the Entry Form.
Each photo should be labeled (in file name or caption) with the category it is being submitted for.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
By entering, participants grant FNPS a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use submitted images for promotional and educational purposes, with proper credit.
Photographers must adhere to ethical guidelines, ensuring no harm or disturbance to plant life or habitats during the photography process.
