Magnolia

Tallahassee

Description

The Magnolia chapter is based in Tallahassee but includes many surrounding counties.  We are active throughout the area and we have a close association with the Sarracenia Chapter to the south.  We have a long history of wonderful programming and field trips, as well as outreach and research activities. We hold monthly program meetings where we have invited speakers from near and far present on topics ranging from fire ecology to plant biology to habitat restoration.  Since Tallahassee is home to two major universities and state government, we are lucky to have many local experts to draw upon for programs.  Our meetings are a great time to see old friends and meet new ones, learn about what’s going on with the chapter and other local organizations, and have a chance to win the native plant of the month. Monthly field trips offer a chance to visit private and public lands with botanists and ecologists who will show you the ropes.  We are pretty passionate about our outreach events, and work hard to engage people of all ages at various festivals around our region.  The Magnolia Chapter maintains a native plant garden in Maclay Gardens State Park, has active volunteer work at the Angus Gholson Nature Park in Chattahoochee, and the Wolf Creek Trout Lily Preserve in Whigham, GA. Our chapter has an email newsletter in which our board announces chapter events, other local events hosted by our partners, volunteer opportunities, and grant opportunities. If you are within the greater Tallahassee region and would like to receive our emails, you can subscribe to our chapter newsletter from our website, accessible through the FNPS website.
